Lawmakers Want To Ban Vpns–and They Have No Idea What They're Doing
A fair number of people working with confidential data — medical, financial, etc. — bridge their physically distant networks via VPNs. Doing this with physical network infrastructure is prohibitively expensive; doing it with a VPN isn’t. One setup that I built links three sites hundreds of miles apart and presents a uniform virtual view of the network to the researchers at all three locations — everything just works, and thanks to judicious caching, it works fairly well even with non-local data.
